Lisa HasmaZama Poker Rally 2008
Saturday, March 15 saw Zama once again host its annual Poker Rally. The start was delayed for a small time due to a power outage at the Rec Hall where things kicked off and once ATCO Electric had done their stuff we were ready to roll. Thanks to the hard work of Darlene Van Wyk and her trail crew consisting of Kent Bridger and "The Bomby", Bruce "Muzzy" Muzichuk and his son Bryce, Marvin Ward and Lisa Wardley with their crew of Ty, Kayla, Alaura and Vaughan and Craig from King Oilfield Rentals who did a great job dragging the trail with "The Haglund" the trail was in great shape. The weather co-operated this year with bright blue sunny skies as opposed to the foot and a half of snow the night before and grey skies last year.
There were three check points along the trail. The first one at Birchy Way was hosted by Chris Kilosky representing Mackenzie County. Chris had bacon'n eggers, hash browns and a selection of drinks for the riders along with Mackenzie County T-shirts for all. Chris had a great time and hopes to be back to do it again next year. Jacquie Bateman, Carmen Royer and Maxine Cramer hosted check point number two as a collaborative effort amongst The Zama Cardlock, King Oilfield Rentals, Test Fluids and T/T Production Services. There was a good fire going to sit at while noshing down on fresh bbq'd burgers and smokies cooked up by Jacquie Bateman, Maxine Cramer and Carmen Royer. Travel mugs, lined leather gloves and playing cards provided the booty for riders here. The last checkpoint was hosted by Norm Payne and Kim Strickland of Norm's Oilfield Services and Lisa Hasma from The Bar. They had a great tarped lean to with a Herman Nelson blowing heat into it and a big roaring fire outfront. Foot long hot dogs, Kim's famous chilli and coffee cake had people chowing down. Hats from Norm's Oilfield were abundant in the crowd.
A big thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make this another successful event in Zama.
